How Does a Song End Up on the Jukebox?
TouchTunes jukeboxes play music in public venues, meaning we must secure licenses directly from rights holders. This ensures fair compensation for the artists and songwriters of your requested song.
To add a song, we need licenses from:
- Songwriters & Publishers (who create the lyrics and melody)
- Record Labels & Artists (who record and distribute the song)
Note that each step in this process can vary, taking anywhere from weeks to several months depending on the responsiveness of the rights holders.
Key Steps in the Licensing Process
Step 1: Record Label Licensing
- TouchTunes must have an agreement with the record label for your requested song.
- If we do not have a license, we must request one.
Note that finding them can take time! Some labels aren’t easy to identify online.
Step 2: Song Delivery
- The record label must deliver your requested song to TouchTunes digitally. All songs on TouchTunes must be delivered by one of our music partners.
- Not all songs are delivered to TouchTunes. Some partners require artists to opt-in before their songs can be delivered.
Note that unlike licensed music platforms such as Spotify or Apple Music, YouTube allows anyone to upload — not just record labels. If a song is available only on YouTube and not on major streaming services, we likely cannot obtain it.
Step 3: Songwriter Licensing
- Every individual songwriter on your requested song must have a valid license with TouchTunes.
- Some songs have 10+ songwriters, making this process time-consuming.
Note that if even one writer isn't cleared, the song cannot go live.
Step 4: Completion!
Once Steps 1-3 are completed, we queue your song for addition to the TouchTunes network.
How You Can Help Speed Up the Process
Double-check spelling – Ensure the song title and artist name match what’s listed on streaming services (e.g., Spotify, Apple Music). Special characters and exact spelling help speed up requests.
Provide a Spotify link – This ensures we process the correct version of the song.
Submit one song per request – We cannot currently process full album requests.
